All the following is from the 1900 census for Bull Swamp Township, Lexington County, S.C.
#4 Lewie D. Gantt, born 10 Nov. 1850, was a hotel
proprietor in Swansea. Buried at Melrose cemetery.
#5 James Grantt, born Sept. 1874, was a merchant in Swansea.
#6 Willie E. Barrs, born Dec. 1869, was a blacksmith in Swansea. Buried at
Melrose cemetery
#7 C. Harry Corbet, born Sept. 1856, was a farmer.
Maggie Corbet, born 1862, was the post office
mistress in Swansea
#8 Dr. Rhinehart Langford, born April 1856, was a physician in
Swansea.
Virginia Catherine (Johnson)-"Jennie"
C. Langford, born 15 June 1863, was a milliner manufacturer.

#10 F.B. Harmon, born June 1859, had three children at school in 1900, so
those three children were probably being taught at the Swansea school by Mr."Jim"
Smith, who was teaching at Swansea School in 1897.
#11 W. Bartow Rast, born 25 Oct. 1861, was a Manufacturer. Buried
at Calvary UMC cemetery. Boarding with W. Bartow Rast were Daniel Kittrell, born
March 1875, was a flagman on railroad. Marcus A. Starr, born Dec. 1875, was a
railroad conductor.
#12 Paul E. Hutto, born 2 Dec. 1871, was a merchant in Swansea. He
owned the half block of land on Eastside of N. Monmouth Ave., 1st St. and 2nd
St.. Buried at Melrose cemetery. Boarding with Paule E. Hutto was Silas Hutto,
born in 1872, salesman at general store.
#13 James L. Johnson, born 15 March 1864, was a physician. Buried
at Melrose cemetery.
#14 Frank Wilson, born in North Carolina 1874, worked with
railroad.
#15 Walter Mallie Williams, born 05 Sept. 1873, was a horse trader.
Later had a horse livery stable in the west back lot in Swansea. Buried at
Melrose cemetery. His son Cleopatrus "Cleo" Williams, born 1897, ran a
garage at the present location of Frank Williams, Mr. Cleo's son, NAPA auto
parts store.
#20 Irwin Hall, born Feb. 1842, was a machinist.
#25 "Bayles" Chaney, born 28 Aug. 1861, was a blacksmith
in Swansea. Buried at Melrose cemetery.His son Lowman Chaney, born Oct. 1887,
was a apprentice blacksmith.
#27 W.H.F. Rast, born in 1853, was a merchant and manufacturing
foreman in 1900. Charles "Charley" Rast, born 10 Dec. 1881, was a
salesman at a general store. Buried at Melrose cemetery. Claude M. Varn, born 06
May 1877, was a salesman at a general store. Buried at Melrose cemetery.
#28 Hilliard Goodman, born 12 April 1847, was a farmer. His wife
Joanna Wise, born 24 April 1849. Hilliared Robert Goodwin owned most of the land
that is present day Swansea.
#29 Willie Furtick, born Oct. 1867, was a carpenter .
#31 L. Baskums, born Oct. 1859, was a harness maker.
#32 Simeon Hall, born in 1871 was a machinist.
#36 Willie James Huffman, born Sept 1873, was a engineer at a
sawmill. Buried at Calvary UMC cemetery.
#37 William Gleaton, born in 1859, was a Methodist Minister.
#75 Col.Darling J. Knotts, born 29 April 1851 was a land surveyor.
Buried at Melrose cemetery.
#149 M. Collins Rish, born Dec. 1849, was a railroad conductor.
#227 John J. Reeder, born 01 Jan. 1867, was a railroad conductor.
Buried at New Hope Baptist Church cemetery.
#312 James F. Taylor, born May 1833, was a blacksmith. He was born
in S.C. his father & mother was born in North Carolina
